He is a genius and an idiot. What an irony! But it's not ridiculous at all, it's real.

Rain man lives in his own world. Yeah, but what's wrong with that?

Rain man hates taking flights because he could calculate precisely how many crashes ever happened. It's dangerous.

Rain man won't go out at rainy days, he sits quietly at the table, drawing the carpet, reading books and contemplating in his own world.

Rain man won't be affected by others, you can yell at him, you can be mad with him, you can curse and disgrace him with unpleasant words, it's ok. It makes no difference. Because he lives in his own world.

Rain man obeys the rule, obeys his own conventions. He couldn't put up with the violence of these rules. He has the same menu, reads before he goes to bed at 11:00, only wears the underwear that is bought in K market, he must watch the same telegramme everyday ,rain or shine, wherever he is, etc. He will be easily offended if these rules are broken. So,look out.

Rain man lives in his own world, he opens his eyes, turns his head slightly and seemingly effortfully, changes his perspectives, observing this world speechless, appreciating unspeakable beauty brought by every simple view that we have taken for granted.

Rain man is capable of calculating numbers, yet he doesn't have the concept of money and the price of the egg and car.

He is an autistic but indeed, he is artistic, isn't he?
.....

What a lovely Raymond! Does he remind you of anything lost when you grow up? Does he amuse you or make you feel even sadder?

I think it's not a family comedy or drama, it's a sad tale of grown-up. The striking contrast between the sophistication and innocence, between the lust and purity, between the moral decline and spiritual brilliance. When we become adults, will we choose to be Raymond or Charlie?
