“I am only a literary lizard basking the day away beneath the great sun of Beauty. That’s all”
“I am the obscure and patient pearl-fisherman who dives into the deepest waters and come up with empty hands and a blue face, some fatal attraction draws me down into the abyss of thought, down into those innermost recesses which never cease to fascinate the strong. I shall spend my life gazing at the ocean of art, where others voyage or fight, and from time to time, I’ll entertain myself by diving for those green and yellow shells that nobody will want. So, I shall keep them for myself and cover the walls of my hut with them”.
---Flaubert
I decided to make notes everyday and keep journal so that I could rehearse in my mind how to express some of my understandings on Literature, these few days, I found I gradually succumb to being a dumb and dull follower, it sucks that IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A CRITIC, YOU SHOULD CHEW OR STEAL OTHERS’ REASEARCH FRUITS,THEN CHEAT ON ACADEMIC FIELD AS WELL AS YOURSELF THAT YOU DO HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. I hate to be such a critic that I have to plagiarize others’ works to achieve my own “glory”. Perhaps to say glory is something tooo narcissus, I can’t even have some personal and valuable ideas on these works without contingence upon others’ reflection and discovery. In a word, it’s very very tough to be a critic, let alone an insightful one. So, from today on, I am determined to compile such a note –CAMEL NOTES, as Flaubert said
----- “I am ,in both my physical and my mental activity, like the dromedary, which it is very hard to get going and very hard, once it is going, to stop; continuity is what I need, whether of rest or of motion. ”
